MARK PERRY
MARK PERRY is a highly respected litigator and mediator.
Mark specializes in mediation as a mediator of marriage and legal separations for Canadian high-net worth litigation and mediation in the areas of family law, estates and personal injury matters.
Most recently, Mark spends about equal amounts of his work week with Mediations and Litigations, as mediation is expanding in popularity in BC under the new Family Law Act as a less stressful and lower cost alternative to litigation.
Mark has 26 years of experience as a lawyer and family law Mediatorsince 2005. Mark specializes in Supreme Court trials and applications in complex, high conflict cases including Estate and Wills Variation, personal injury, and his family law work in child custody and family and corporate asset protection and division. Family law and personal injury claims occasionally combine due to instances of spousal assault or personal injury. Mark has assisted his clients to successfully obtain or defend against “mobility rights” of a parent to relocate with a child for career or other reasons.
ESTATES and PERSONAL INJURY: Mark is formerly in-house counsel to the BC Public Guardian and Trustee and was involved in the drafting of current policy and BC guardianship and Estates and Wills legislation. Mark has extensive Trial and negotiation experience in the areas of Personal Injury and Wills Variation and related Estates issues, involving claims against Estates and has had great success in these areas. Mark recently settled a personal injury case for a sum that pleased (and surprised) his client greatly: the claim had some serious "fault" issues that were problematic if the case had proceeded to Trial. Instead, Mark settled the claim at an amount above his best estimate of the value of the claim and the file has ended most happily for his client.
Mark Perry was featured in the Globe and Mail's Lifestyler Magazine in Spring 2012, Old Made New: Mediation in Family Law and the new Family Law Act in BC, in which mediation is expected to go mainstream.
